New Airport
11-11-2005
Fort Myers new, state-of-the-art terminal at Southwest Florida
International Airport has arrived. The $438-million Midfield
terminal offers 3 concourses and 28 gates with expansion
capabilities up to 65 gates. Direct flights to Fort Myers from
additional destinations throughout the country and the world will
do much to make our city a resort destination.
Only 20 minutes away, downtown Fort Myers is undergoing a
revitalization plan guided by the steady hand of Andres Duany, the
world renowned urban planner. The plan envisions a
pedestrian-friendly enviornment where residents can live, work,
shop, dine, socialize and be entertained. In addition to all the
planned high-rise condo projects, there are plans to expand the
Harborside Convention Center before the City Council. By utilizing
undeveloped waterfront property, the city can cater to the $102
billion a year convention industry.
With the prospect of many new tourists and convention goers, WCI
has proposed to build a five star hotel along with restaurants and
retail shops to provide entertainment for residents and
tourists.
Of course, Fort Myers already has some big draws including the
historic Edison and Ford estates and the City of Palms Park, where
the Boston Red Sox during spring training, but there are many new
and exciting developments in store.
